COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
We have a tremendous investment in Jamaica’s future. For us, being a good
neighbour means reaching out and being involved in the local communities in
which we operate. Our Community Relations and Communications Departments have,
over the years, engaged in a programme of integrating the Company within our
respective host
communities and by extension, the national community.
This programme includes the encouragement of community activities in our
operating areas in the form of assistance to schools, churches, hospitals,
youth activities, service clubs and voluntary bodies engaged in social
welfare. This is done by means of donations (especially to organisations
showing means of self help), use of Company facilities such as sports fields
and certain plant services during times of emergency as well as interaction
between the Company and community through plant tours. We get involved in our
communities through the following main areas:
Education
Health
Sports
Agriculture
Company representatives and other employees serve on boards and committees
of many organisations and institutions in their respective locations. A
number of employees also give voluntary service to various institutions
in their host communities. On the national scene, active support is given to
appeals for assistance for civic, educational and cultural institutions,
hospitals and charitable organisations.
As part of Jamaica, we are proud of the contribution we are making to the
nation’s development through support for education, health, sports,
agriculture, community and cultural development. At WINDALCO, our aim is
